Hundreds of thousand of rands will be invested into organized HIV/Aids, sport, arts and culture NGOs and NPOs that are running programmes in communities. This was revealed by Jerry Mabuza, Chairperson of the Gauteng Art and Culture Council, during the Grant- in - Aid workshops that are currently running the Province.
Addressing scores of young people gathered at Meyerton Community Hall, Mabuza said the department has funds available to support community projects that will help to achieve the Department's developmental goals. "Organizations that we will be funding should be running sports, arts and culture as well as integrated HIV and Aids programmes in communities. We also want recipients of the funding to be ambassadors of the good work the department is doing in developing communities,"Mabuza said.
Organizations wishing to apply must be registered with cipro, have costed project plans and compliance documents which include Certified IDs of the coordinator; Original tax clearance or exemption certificates; Audited financial statements and Signed constitution of the organization.
"Last year's grant receivers can still apply, however, before we could process their application they need to submit a report on previous funding received. We plan to transfer funds before the start of the new financial year in preparation for the 2010 World Cup, "said Mabuza.
Funded organizations will be monitored closely through unscheduled visits and submission of project reports.
For S'khumbuzo Tyani, acting Chairperson for Sedibeng Craft Hub, the workshops came at a time when their organization needed funding. "I am ecstatic with this initiative and I think this is a good intervention by government to assist struggling community based organizations," he said.
Closing date is end of February 2010 and application forms can be collected from 38 Rissik Street, 6 th Floor or downloaded from www.srac.gpg.gov.za/forms .
