Puisano kick starts 2009 with spectacular showcases

After a successful stint of six exciting Puisano Live Music Performances during November and December 2008, the programme kicks off 2009 with an open air performance at the Boksburg Lake Amphitheatre on the 25 January 2009. Communities are encouraged to bring along their camp chairs, umbrellas and picnic basket and enjoy free quality of jazz music. The two overall Puisano winners, Solace and Mabhovu will play alongside Radiostation and J4DOT. J4 Dot is short for "Just for the Love of Music" and the four-piece jazz band has been together since 2006. Radiostation plays a form of jazz influenced by modern jazz and that of the 1920s.
February and March will be packed with almost every weekend hosting a Puisano performance. On the 1 st and 8 th February 2009 the programme moves to the Metsweding Municipality with Malepies Jazz Pub in Zithobeni hosting on the 1 st and the Refilwe Community Hall in Culllinan hosting on the 8 th . Club Jazz in Alexander, Johannesburg will be the perfect place to celebrate your Valentine's Day to the background of quality jazz music; and you can relax on the 15 February 2009 at the Lebjaeng Lounge in Nellmapius, Tshwane. To round off February on the 28 th the Springs Theatre which has developed a successful monthly live jazz series will be the place to be.
Paddos Jazz Lounge opens the March performances on the 7 th March 2009 and the final Puisano Live Performance Programme of this current series comes on the 7 th March 2009 at the Sharpville Exhibition Centre and will form part of the build-up to Human Rights Day.
With this last event the Puisano Live Performance Programme would have successfully staged fourteen live shows, featured eight bands and brought countless enjoyment to hundreds of Gauteng jazz lovers.
The programme is a flagship of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, and is instrumental in promoting and supporting the development of a culture of live music performances, unearthing new talent and exposing them to the industry.
