11 June 2009
The Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts Culture and Recreation Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mtimkulu has welcomed all teams participating in the up-coming Confederations Cup which all landed through the province's OR Tambo International Airport.
"As we do the final count down towards the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in the next 3 days as the Gauteng Provincial Government we feel confident that the tournament will be a resounding success. With a majority of the teams having arrived to do final preparations before the kick-off we are sure that everyone is now convinced that South Africa can do it. With Gauteng hosting the bulk of the matches including the opening game we can confidently declare that "it all starts here", says MEC Mbatha-Mtimkulu.
Ke Nako! "The time has come for us show our African humility and humanity by welcoming the visitors with a Smile. In our recently launched Smile Campaign we are encouraging our people to be helpful, hospitable and kind to our visitors. Our Smile can do wonders. Gestures that people show can contribute immensely in influencing tourists to come back to Gauteng for trade investment to create the decent jobs that we all want" added the MEC.
As part of making success out of the Confederations Cup the department has acquired 20 000 (twenty thousand) tickets for different matches to be given to Gauteng 's poorest communities. The tickets will be distributed using different local government district municipalities.
